Before we get into the process, here is something every Aadhaar holder must know.

The last date for updating Aadhaar documents (Proof of Identity and Proof of Address) online for free is June 14, 2026.

After June 14, 2026, updating your identity and address proof documents will cost ₹25 on the myAadhaar portal or ₹50 at physical Aadhaar centres.

If your Aadhaar documents are outdated, this is the best time to update — for free (online) or at the standard fee (offline).

Why Choose Offline Mode for Aadhaar Address Update?

While address update is also available online at myAadhaar portal, the offline route at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra is better in several situations:

• Your mobile number is not registered with Aadhaar (can’t receive OTP for online update)
• You also need to update biometric data (fingerprints, iris scan, photograph) — only possible offline
• You need to update name, date of birth or gender — currently only offline
• You are a senior citizen or not tech-savvy and prefer in-person assistance
• Your document is not in digital format for upload
• You are a child who has turned 15 and requires mandatory biometric update

Key rule from UIDAI: Currently, only the address can be updated online. Name, date of birth, gender, mobile number and all biometric details must be updated offline at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

Step 1 — Find Your Nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra

You can locate your nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra using the official UIDAI locator:

Book an appointment online for a faster, queue-free experience. Most centres also allow walk-ins, but appointments save significant waiting time.

Step 2 — Documents Required for Offline Address Update

You must carry one valid Proof of Address (POA) document to update your Aadhaar address. The document must clearly show your new address.

Accepted Proof of Address (POA) Documents:

UIDAI maintains a list of 34+ accepted POA documents — you can check the complete list at uidai.gov.in.

Important: Carry originals for verification. Photocopies will be taken by the operator. Do NOT submit original documents — they will be returned after verification.

Step 3 — Fill the Aadhaar Update / Correction Form

At the Aadhaar Seva Kendra, collect and fill the Aadhaar Enrolment and Update Form.

• You can also download the form in advance at home from uidai.gov.in and fill it before your visit to save time
• Fill the form in CAPITAL LETTERS as per UIDAI guidelines
• Clearly mark the field(s) you want updated — in this case, Address
• Enter the complete new address accurately, including PIN code
• Enter Care of (C/O) field with your father’s/husband’s/guardian’s name as applicable

Step 4 — Biometric Verification at the Counter

After submitting the form and documents, the Aadhaar operator at the counter will:

• Verify your original documents
• Scan and retain copies of the address proof
• Capture your biometric data — fingerprints and/or iris scan — to authenticate your identity
• Verify your existing Aadhaar details

You do not need your old Aadhaar card physically — but carrying it is helpful for reference.

Step 5 — Pay the Fee

The applicable fee for Aadhaar address update at an offline centre:

This fee is non-refundable. Even if your request is rejected later, the fee will not be returned. Double-check all details before submission.

Step 6 — Collect Your Acknowledgement Slip with URN

After payment, the operator will issue an Acknowledgement Slip containing:

• Your Aadhaar number
• Update Request Number (URN) — your tracking ID
• Date of request
• Details of the update applied for

Keep this slip safe. The URN is essential for tracking your application status online.

Step 7 — Track Your Aadhaar Update Status

Once submitted, track your Aadhaar address update status anytime:

Step 1 → Visit uidai.gov.in

Step 2 → Go to “My Aadhaar” → “Check Aadhaar Update Status”

Step 3 → Select “URN”

Step 4 → Enter your URN and captcha → Click “Submit”

Your current status will appear — pending, in process, approved or rejected.

Via SMS: You will also receive SMS updates on your registered mobile number as your application progresses.

Processing time: As per UIDAI, over 90% of address update applications are processed within 30 working days. Offline applications can occasionally take up to 90 working days. Errors or incomplete documents can cause rejection — so double-check everything before submission.

Step 8 — Download Updated e-Aadhaar

Once approved:

Step 1 → Visit myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in

Step 2 → Login with your Aadhaar number and OTP

Step 3 → Click “Download Aadhaar”

Step 4 → Download the updated e-Aadhaar PDF (password: first 4 letters of name in CAPS + birth year, e.g., RAJE1990)

You do NOT need to visit the centre again to collect a physical card. The e-Aadhaar is the official, legally valid digital version.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

• Uploading unclear or expired documents — ensure documents are legible and valid
• Spelling errors — enter all details exactly as they appear on your proof document
• Wrong PIN code — double-check your new address PIN code
• Not noting the URN — without URN, you cannot track your application
• Submitting original documents — only photocopies are kept, originals are returned
• Assuming immediate update — the update takes up to 30 days to reflect in the database

Can You Update Address Multiple Times?

Yes — there is no limit on the number of times you can update your address on Aadhaar card. You can update it every time you move to a new address. However, each update request requires a new fee payment.

Different demographic fields have different update limits:

• Date of Birth: Can be updated only once in a lifetime
• Name: Can be updated up to 3 times
• Address: No limit on updates
